Further to the post started by Dr T about the 1998 I picked up the three subsequent vintages of this stuff. I'd already had the 1999 and found it slightly thin but pleasant with no urge to buy any more. After the reviews I went out to see if there were any 1998s to test and found all three vintages in the same place for the same price £8 - so I bought them.

I'd heard that the 2001 vintage was good so I opened up yesterday and...

... lovely. Dark purple colour with a pretty pink rim suggesting its youth. A sniff gave off the deep cherry nose alomst Cherry brandy like. In the mouth it was warms and the cherries were at it again with overtones of sweet spices llike nutmeg and cinnamon.

It is young but drinkable but I'd rather go and get some more and hold on to it. I can't see the 2000 being a match for it but we'll see. Now that I've had it and the price has gone down to £7 I will have to have some more.

Thanks for the TN. I was giving this one the once over at the wine store but no one had reviewed yet. I think I'll give it a try!

I have not seen it around here yet, either. But KillerB, those prices are incredible.

Have you had or tried Clancy's Legendary Red (also a Peter Lehmann wine). The 98 was superb, but the 99 sucked. Curious if you've seen the 2000 yet.

Word of warning - when it got too cool it wasn't as nice. I warmed it in my hands and it was gorgeous - quite typical of young wines.

I haven't seen the Clancy's but I can get the Stonewall!!

Just to annoy TJ - this is on special at £5.99 - just bought three more along with some Hardy's and got 5% off. So £5.70 per bottle!! It's starting to get silly, isn't it?

I found some of this shopping at MudPuppy's last weekend. After the VC discount, I think it came to $10.92 per bottle. Not as good as you, but damn better than in MD/DC/VA!!

TJ - that's better, that's about £7 - £7.50. The right sort of range now.

Nope, have you had it before? I am hoping the Clancy's legendary red is better in 2001...

Peter Lehmann 1999 Seven Surveys SA2003 is a GSM blend that sells for $20 at CD. A well made wine with a good mouth feel showing good rich chocolate and some liquorice which is neither sweet nor savoury. It’s an ample weight wine with well developed flavours and smooth unobtrusive tannins that’s highly enjoyable now and good value to boot. Rated as Recommended with *** for value.

Even the 1999? Good grief, I though that the whole Lehmann industry went to sleep for 1999/2000.
