| - 2002 Noon Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - Australia, South Australia, Langhorne Creek (1/2/2006)
Dark, cloudy purple in color with a reddish rim. Lots of blackberry, vanilla and mint throughout. I think we probably opened this wine too young but it was a singleton. It only faintly resembled Cabernet but did have impressive concentration. It seemed completely overoaked to me but this is probably a stylistic preference on my part. [Decanted about one hour and needed every minute; Hold on these bottles for a few years and hope for improvement] (90 pts.) Posted from CellarTracker

| Winetex,
It ahs been said there is no such thing as a wine that is over oaked; just wines that are under fruited. In the case of Noons, considering the huge amount of fruit in the wine, it can manage a hauge amount of oak. As you said, it may be just that this style is not your thing, but the wine is in balance and in 4+ years time should look a whole lot better; even though it will still be a huge beast. | | Cheers Ric www.torbwine.com

When the oak is abusive to the palate then it's over-oaked. Sometimes it improves and sometimes not depending on the wine. There's definitely room for improvement with this wine.
I agree with you that the wine is in balance as the alcohol didn't club us in the head. We were able to walk away from the table.

| Your wine might be over-oaked if: you find splinters in your tongue. | | | |
