Color is very dark purple. The nose has notes of red currant, sour cherry, leather. Ultraripe and jammy with flavors of cassis, burnt black cherry, prune, tobacco. Finishes with more black fruit, blackberry syrup, coffee grounds, cola. I suspect many will find this wine enjoyable, but as for me this is over the top. I prefered the 04 Sarah's Blend that I tried several weeks ago and scored it several points higher.

I look forward to trying the 04 MP's. If they pick up from 02, I'll be a big buyer. As it is, I have a few on order to test.

I'd be interested in opinions from others who fell in love with the regular 02's, how these compare.

I still have a lot of 02's and I drink them regularly. The Shiraz and Sarah's are very pretty and aromatic, yes somewhat alcoholic, but very tasty, sweet, and pleasing.

The 04 Shriaz is better than the 03 but not as good as the 02. Havn't had the Sarah's from 04.

2004 Marquis Phillips Shiraz - South Eastern Australia $18.99/$13
Decanted 1 hr. Dark nose. Dense cassis, blueberry and blackberry with some mocha and black pepper notes along with ample, spicy oak. Good, thick, mouthfeel, this has some elements of depth. Full bodied and full throttled from the start to the finish. S90 10/4/2005

Tasted this one on Saturday night in a blind Syrah/Shiraz tasting. Much better than the 03 IMHO. Much more like the 02 or 01. I liked it quite a bit. Finished tied for third oout of five wines. It was my number 2 wine finishing behind the 01 Lewis Ethan's Syrah. 90-91 and good value at $12-15.
