Being my third bottle of this I have had, I again was looking forward to it. If you have never tried the Noon Shiraz it is something you really need to experience. "Syrup of Shiraz", "In your Face Style" these wine are gloriously huge with such magnificant extraction, port like in nature. I kept seeing images of dripping, oozing overripe grapes hanging on the vines waiting to be picked. Black-purple in color with full bodied structure the Noon was gushing with black fruits, hot fresh asphalt, sweet berries, knockout licorice, tar, asian spices, and a dash of pepper. At 15.2% alcohol there is no sign whatsoever of any heat. 97pts

I paid $52 for the 1999 Shiraz, Noon has since lowered their prices and subsequent offerings 2000 on should reflect a $10 lower price. $60-65 is reasonable for the 99 Shiraz, I would pay it.

ojeffso -

I may be interested in a bottle if you can score an extra one (or two). Let me know.

Believe it or not the 99 Reserve is Noon's weakest Reserve Shiraz he has yet produced. The rest of my bottles will rest comfortably for another five years or so. The last time I had this wine it was quite tight.

jones-interesting about the 99 shiraz reserve. i found the 99 eclipse to also be very tight. parker gave the 99 shiraz a 96. do you think it deserved the rating?

Frankly, no I don't believe the wine deserves a 96 point rating. I found a case of it on the Upper West Side of Manhattan over a year ago and was very happy when I found it. I think the wine is tight and is a low nineties wine. As a result, I have never been particularly pleased with my purchase. Perhaps it has filled out since I last tried it. I believe I rated the 2000 as a 93 about eight months ago (was mispriced on the wine list at Mankas for $80 or so). I liked the 2000 more than the 99. I thought the 2000 needed time as well so I didn't even bother opening up the two six packs of that wine I found. I just put it in the cellar and have kind of forgotten about it since. May be time to pull a cork just to see if I am misreading the wines.
