| What a nice surprise. On the latest wine expedition picked this up for $25, listed at $22 on release. Decanted for over one half hour, very little sediment thrown. Classic ruddy red colour in the glass. This one is not dead, in fact, I think it’s actually hit a pretty nice drinking window. Tannins receded/integrated and the fruit is now center on the palate. We drank this little nugget with pasta and tomato/garlic sauce and it complemented perfectly. The nose was good sangiovese, with nice cherry and a small hint of vanilla. The finish was entirely pleasant, nice and long. Surprisingly, given the other 93 I drank recently, the Ornellaia, this one is drinking better and still has a nice life. I never drank this young, so I can’t compare to initial release, but I will be going back to get the last couple bottles I saw. WS rated 87, my rating an 89 with a QPR of B. Another reminder of why Felsina is one of my favourite Italian producers. | | |
