| A solid replacement for the 00's. As some may remember, I felt that the '00 Ciacci Rosso was the best "everyday" Sangiovese based wine that I have ever had. This wine does not disapoint, however it does remind me that I didn't buy enough of the '00 and I am already running dangerously short. 
This wine is well balanced and perfectly flavored. The acidity and richness are a perfect compliment to each other. This is in sharp contrast to the 00 that was ultra rich. In fact I believe that this wine is better with food then the '00 and would go with virtually any Italian meal. There were loads of ripe black cherries with some earthy new leather and a hint of creaminess.
I had this first with Parmigano cheese, then with roasted peppers wrapped in prociutto, next with pork loin rolled around spinach and veal sausage with a peccorino and pancetta bechamel sauce(My own special take on Brociole), and finally with the pieces of meat that I pulled off the beef bones after making stock (Nothing goes to waste in my "Itallian" Kitchen, I would rather eat these tender bits of meat over cookies any day!) The wine went perfect with all of them.
I bought this for $16 and I would give it 89 points. I gave the '00 91 points but that being said this wine will be the one I pull with Wednesday's Osso Bucco. With dinner it's the '01, with the cheese course or on it's own I will stick to my last three '00.
In many ways I find more reasons to pull Ciacci's Rosso then the Brunello - even though the Brunnello IS a mind bending wine of superior quality (and very forward).
