Going into this I wasn't expecting much other than something different...

Crystal clear light purple color with a little red around the rim. Very liquid in the class. Very soft nose of earth and dried cherries. The taste was of earth and "red wine", but it was watery and weak. Light body and very well balanced in that it wasn't too acidic or alcoholic. The finish was medium and left the mouth with a nice clean feeling. I'll rate it a 79-80 only because of the clean finish. Drink it now (as if anyone actually has any of this stuff). 11.5% alcohol. Dry. $7 (after favorable DM exchange)

Weingut Otto Bollig is located in Trittenheim on the Mosel. Herr Bollig is the only employee and makes the wine in an outside basement (that is the best I can describe it). Although not a worldy wise man (or even an English-speaker), he is a very friendly old guy. He really charmed my wide in the way only a cute friendly old man can. His other wines (mostly non-noble whites, QbA and QmP) were supprisingly good considering his operation!

From your post, I assume that this was consumed in Germany? For US consumption, the Qualtatswein Wines have not been very good and are a sad commentary on a once good wine. -Dick

I wouldn't expect much from the Dornfelder grape in any situation (nothing more than a weak and fruity pinot noir-like wine the couple times I tried it), but I don't think the Qualitätswein classification is any indicationper se that it will be inferior...

HaHa...Brett Can't Type...
My wife (wide?) actually isn't wide at all...and she has a good sense of humor, so she would laugh at my mistake

2nd day tasting results: The taste and smell has almost disappeared, except for one astounding and now overposering taste: Onions. This wine tasted like old, smelly onions. Luckily there wasn't much left so I didn't feel weird pouring it down the drain.

You post reminded me when some business friends arranged for a dinner at a winery near Heidelburg. We tried all of the wines that they made and the dinner was very good. Unfortunately, I found out why Germany is not famous for their red wines.

Onions is not a descriptor I want to find in a wine. Ick!
