| 1995 Campogiovanni Brunello di Montalcino -- even in a fairly dark restaurant, this was very faded in color, beautiful pale ruby, reminiscent of a much older Bordeaux, which caused me some momentary concern; big, expansive nose of berries, mushrooms; quite concentrated flavors of blackberry, minerals, tobacco, anise; very velvety texture, almost a shame to stop swishing this around in the mouth; full-bodied; long, fruit-laden finish, with some tannins still to shed. The color makes me hesitant about suggesting this still has lots of time ahead, but the fruit is there in spades, the acidity's good, and there's still tannin. Certainly, drinking very well right now. App. 91-2 pts. | | |
