Notes from an '80's wine dinner last month.

'88 Solaia. A notch richer in the nose having more intensity of dried as well as fresh black fruits with a slightly earthier note but still straighforward, not showing too much development for a 15 year old. The palate seemed heavier, with again a richer curranty and plum quality. The tannin seemed a bit disjointed and slightly covered the fruit. It is a bit awkward at this stage, not being very generous but still pleasing. It should hold well for the next few years, but I'm a bit worried that the fruit is a bit lacking on the palate and it will not be one of the classic vintages for Solaia.
