Turns out great Chianti is made outside of Tuscany!

1997 San Patrignano AVI Riserva Sangiovese Superiore di Romagna -- a beautiful dark ruby red color; with garnet highlights; deep nose of plum, violets, rosemary, leather, very complex; rich velvety texture, dark cherry and blackberry flavors, with hints of cedar, leather, icing sugar; just enough acidity to avoid being flabby; long satisfying finish, with very soft tannins holding up the fruit for 30+ seconds. A decent buy at around C$40, on a par with just about any CCR.
