Browning, bricked core and meniscus, completely transparent. Moderate nose of mushrooms, old leather, roasted meats, damp earth, tea and faded currants. Medium body, high complexity, high acidity, low tannin and long length. Denser fruit on the palate though still completely tertiary. Balanced and beautiful with incredible density and power yet so light. Thanks Eric, quite a treat. 95-96pts

| | It was great Max, just great. No wine that old should be that good. | | | |

| Interesting as at the house in Occidental that same weekend I cracked a 1952 Borgogno and loved it, but my guests were not impressed. I still have 52, 61, 67, 74?, and 82 in the cellar. | | "Everyday is worthy of a glass of sparkling wine" - Andrea Immer MS | |

| | I can see a few reasons people would not be impressed by these wines, or more apt wines of these age. They are not about power or fruit or youthful vigor, but tertiary flavors, grace and poise. | | | |

| | I'm not impressed by some of the older wines. A percentage of the time they taste tired to say the least. Or oxidized like my 64 Conterno. Eric's bottle of '47 was very complex, balanced and still had fruit. This was the first time I've experienced that combo in a wine of that age and I was impressed. |

| I've opened 3 or 4 of these now, and the wine has never failed to impress - tho as Jason mentions, and this applies to virtually all of these old Nebbiolos, not everyone "gets" them. I sure do, and I was glad to share another stunning example of this very special wine.
Winebrat, I have 47, 52, 55, 58, 61, 64, 71, & 78 in the cellar. I'm putting together a vertical in March, you must come! I'll send details when I finalize arrangements.
