Just when I think I'm bored with the same old wines I open something like this and all is well.  Not profound or anything like that but definitely good with food.  It is quite a deal at under $20 if you can find it.   K&L has it for $17.99.

Bright ruby red in color. Penetrating nose of plums, spices and a touch of vanilla. More plums and spice flavors leading into a slightly clipped, aromatic finish. It was balanced with a nice velvet texture. Good with pizza. As others note a heavy meat dish would probably overwhelm this wine. (89 pts.)

This was also a good winery visit in Piedmont.  Even after a long day of tasting wines I liked the Barbera.
