A good match with Eggplant Parmigiana (link to recipe from Gourmet) - a lighter treatment of the dish with easy preparation

  • 2001 Castello di Querceto Chianti Classico Riserva - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico (9/24/2007)
Good Chianti with enough structure and balance to be interesting. A light oak treatment with bright cherry flavors and a spice. The acids matched up well with a tomato sauce. [Decently priced under $20; Might buy again; Decanted and poured with good results] (88 pts.)

If you can find the 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Picchio from this producer at a good price, give it a crack. Needs a couple years in the cellar, but very tasty stuff.
