1997 Castelgiocondo (Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (7/21/2007)
WIML91?,NOWA,WA??

Tasted July 21, 2007. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of leather, cocoa and black berries. Flavors of black berries and cherries. Medium to full acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium body. Can be drank now with a decant but this wine is still a little tight and I’m betting like the 1995s are really starting to sing right now that this 1997 will really start to sing in about 2 more years so I’d recommend holding a little longer. (91 pts.)

I've actually had a few 97s that didn't seem to be showing all that well, like they were starting to lose it. Is it perhaps that my sampling is a little too small?

Don't know. I haven't tasted any 97s to date that indicated to me they were losing it. Most to me seemed to need more time.

Opened a 1995 a couple weeks ago and it was definitely on the downward slope. Maybe an off bottle? It was certainly lacking in fruit. This was the Riserva.

Really? Interesting. Everything I've heard as of late about the 95s is they are singing.

The 1995 I opened was bought at retail upon release and kept in a 55 degree cellar since. Like I said, it could have been a bad bottle.
