This winery was on a hill right outside of Alba, Italy. It is family-owned by the third generation and another rather large facility. Their total production is 1,000,000 bottles (83K cases). 500K bottles are the Blange (Arneis). Over 30% of their total production is exported and over half of this is to the USA. They use the large French oak barriques for vinification.
This was a slightly boring, "here is a barrel" visit.
2006 Ceretto Langhe Arneis Blange - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (5/11/2007)
Tasted at the winery; Very light gold in color; Some residual CO2 left in this wine for a slight sparkle; It had lemon oil and white flowers on the nose with adequate balance. Better than average but on the simple side. A buy at a decent price. €11.80 from the winery. (87 pts.)2003 Azienda Monsordo Bernardina (Ceretto) Langhe Monsordo - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (5/11/2007)
Tasted at the winery; Dark ruby in color; A blend of Cab (over 50%), Merlot, Syrah & Nebbiolo. Vanilla and dark fruit aromas and flavors. Very international in style and reasonably priced for the quality. An easy drinking wine even if the blend detracts from the focus. Good balance and well-priced. €13.80 (88 pts.)
2003 Ceretto Barolo Brunate - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (5/11/2007)
Tasted at the winery; Clear garnet in color; Medium weight with spice, menthol and rose aromas. Well-balanced but again slightly unfocused. Probably overpriced for the quality although it should be an early drinker. €45 from the winery. (88 pts.)Posted from CellarTracker
