Although the wines are good from this estate this was a repeat visit for us and for some reason we were turned off by it.  Possibly because they don't let people taste the best wines?  It is a very large facility with a production of over 500,000 bottles (41,600 cases).

  • 2005 Braida (Giacomo Bologna) Barbera del Monferrato La Monella - frizzante - Italy, Piedmont, Monferrato, Barbera del Monferrato (5/10/2007)
Tasted at the winery; La monella means “exuberant must” in Italian; this was a Barbera Frizzante. Strange but kind of interesting. It was very dry with spice and strawberry aromas and flavors and an acidic finish. Keep only 1-2 years. €8.10 from the winery(85 pts.)
  • 2005 Braida (Giacomo Bologna) Barbera d'Asti Montebruna - Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti (5/10/2007)
Tasted at the winery; Quick notes; tasted at the winery; Dark purple in color with plum, spices, oak, vanilla aromas and flavors. Hold 6-7 years; A bit bitter on the finish. €11.50 from the winery; 14% alcohol (87 pts.)
  • 1999 Braida (Giacomo Bologna) Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone - Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti (5/10/2007)
Tasted at the winery; Dark purple color; Toasty wood on the nose and bitter acidity on the finish. 14% stated alcohol but it seemed a lot higher. €30.75 from the winery (87 pts.)
  • 2006 Braida (Giacomo Bologna) Brachetto d'Acqui - Italy, Piedmont, Brachetto d'Acqui DOCG (5/10/2007)
Tasted at the winery; Bright ruby color with strawberry aromas and flavors. In texture similar to Moscato with low alcohol. Unfortunately the sweetness was not balanced by acidity. Pleasant but too weird for most people. €9.90 from the winery. (85 pts.)
