A test bottle. Ultimately this was a good wine for the price - it is available for under $50 at many places. This is exactly the type of wine I'm looking for these days - enjoyable to drink and with potential to cellar. And it is not so profound, rare or expensive that if gets opened along the way so be it.Â
- 2001 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (3/24/2007)
Dark, clear ruby in color; I wasn't sure what to think of this wine because it was so different than the other 2001 Brunellos we've tried to date. Ultimately it was a bit rustic with intense dark fruit, smoke, leather and a touch of mint on the finish. It was balanced and rather unique tasting. The only question I had was a rather pruny taste on the finish. When tasted the next morning this was gone so it was probably a stage in this young wine. Well-priced for the quality. [~$50 on release; Decanted 30 minutes and needed it; Next bottle up 2010-11] (92 pts.)
