Another in my continuing quest to expand my Italian wine experience (on the cheap, in this case), this was purchased from Wine Commune for about $4 bucks.
Torgiano is located in central Italy, in Umbria, and not far from Perugia. By Central, I mean central - on a map it looks dead center, half way the length of Italy and half the width. This is a DOC wine, estate bottled at Cantine Lungarotti, and is 13% abv.
(why all the extra info? 'cause I'm trying to learn Italian wines, damnit! And writing it helps!

)
Medium-dark ruby red in color, the initial nose was a bit off-putting, with leafy, herbal aromas. This quickly (mostly) blew off however to show a pleasant nose of dusty red fruit (raspberries, red cherries), iron, dry spices, and light floral notes (roses?). On the palate this is medium bodied, with moderate tannins that are slightly drying, but not coarse, and a rather short drying finish. Certainly not a deep, complex wine, but a good enough drop (particularly for the price paid!), and a good match to a hearty pasta dish. If you require numbers, this would go to the 83-85 point range in my book. Will this wine improve with age? Beats the hell out of me.
