Tasted at the Denver offline with WIML on 5/12/03.

Served double blind with the main dishes. The main dishes were grilled Portabella mushroom caps marinated in truffle oil and balsamic vinegar and Bistecca ala Fiorentina with grilled vegetables and roasted garlic and white truffle oil mashed potatoes.

Not quite sure about the name on this wine, since I never did get a look at the label. Notes here are also a little weak. A spicy wine, with well-integrated tannins and a medium length finish, this also matched well with the Bistecca ala Fiorentina.

Maybe one of the other tasters can chime in here?

I'm pretty sure you got the name of the wine correct. The wine still had a goodly amount of firm tannins and acidity at this point. It should continue to age and improve at least for a few more years. The only tastes I could remember were the red fruit flavors such as red cherrys over a slightly earthy finish. This was one of two wines during the night I guessed the varietal correct. I missed the vintage. I thought it was a 1997 BdM. This is the first Gaja I've had. Nice effort. I'd be interested in trying this again in about 3-4 years to see how it is progressing.
