Simply put, my QPR of the year - I didn't pimp this because I was selling it while I was working retail, but I wish I had gotten more than a six pack of it at $20/bottle. An awesome Nebbiolo - just pure Nebbiolo aromatics coming through on the nose with the telltale hints of tar and roses that you get from a good Barolo or Barbaresco. Quite lush and generous, but does not lack focus or typicity. Maybe it lacks a little bit of the grip and structure of it's older brothers, but so what? It's friggin great. Luca Currado (the winemaker) once told me that he could technically bottle this as a Barolo, but wants to spread the Vietti name for quality and value, so he bottles it as a straight Nebbiolo. Bravo, Luca - this is a fantastic wine. (92 pts.)

Alas so hard to find or I would be trying to buy it. I need some lower priced Nebbiolos for a Neb fix otherwise I open the big boys.

I think we had a lion's share of the allocation - we sold through like a hundred six-packs of this wine in 6 months. Babbo I think had it by-the-glass, and the winemaker told me that they would go through 10 cases a week.

The 2003 is not as good, as it is a wine of the vintage conditions, but still a nice value.

Hrm, this is actually available within walking distance from my work for about $20/btl. Jamie, is that a fair price for this wine?

That is a fair price for the wine - pick up a bottle and give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed.

So it turns out that Primi Vini (the place near me) was sold out of this . I see the 2003 seems to be widely available however, any comments on how the '03 compares?

I tasted this in Italy as a gift from the Vietti family, and I have to say it was pretty unimpressive in the fact that it was extremely unforgiving, even though I consumed the bottle over several days. I have to go back on my notes with respect to figuring out specifically what vintage, however.

This wine is quite shut down at the moment - it gives more aromatically than it does on the palate, and the wine is a little austere after losing the baby fat from last year. Still, it is very high quality, and I'll open another bottle in about a year.
