    WIML89,WA94,WS90

Tasted April 20, 2006 at and offline at Danielle’s Osteria in Dallas, TX. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Crimson color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of roasted coffee, dark brooding fruits and anise. Flavors of black berries, fennel, minerals and licorice. Served too warm so the rating might be a point or two higher if served in better conditions. Hold two years before trying again. Value is between acceptable and agreeable at the moment. (89 pts.)

Yes, that's an impressive bunch of Italian notes.

1999 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric dël Fiasc - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (4/28/2007)
WIML90,WA92,WS90

Tasted April 28, 2007 at an offline. Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, slightly dusty looking in appearance. Nose of black berries, a little leather and some cassis. Flavors of red berries, red currants, some raspberry notes and just a touch of bitters on the finish. Medium to full acidity, firm tannins, medium bodied. Slightly better than my last tasting but needs another year or so in bottle to better resolve. (90 pts.)

Another year did it well!  This was lovely with a chicken marsala with porcini mushrooms.  Note to self:  Porcinis and Barolo = .

Slightly cloudy dark purple color with a brick rim; Great blackberry and leather aromas along with spice; Flavors included a menthol (eucalyptus) note along with kirsch and blackberries. Long aromatic finish that screams "Barolo!". This wine has dramatically improved over the past few years. Existing tannins and acids suggest it might continue to improve. (92 pts.)
