Nebbiolo and Barbera made in a modern style.

On the nose isn't very much at all. Very light. Not what i expected with such a dark and sticky color.
It's almost as if the super thick glycerins aren't letting any wine evaporate into the air. What there is of the nose is sweet, no hint of the 14% alcohol. The Barbera in this wine is highly needed, as this is quite a smooth wine that probably needed the acidity that Barbera brings.

Thick mountain berry fruits on top with nice darker cherry underneath. This packs quite a punch for this grape!! Amazing how ripe this is and how much flavor this is giving off even though the nose is practically non-existant. There is a very nice earthy quality to this wine also, some blueberry, chocolate, mineral, oak. I highly enjoy the complexity that's coming out of this. Semi-drying tannins after drinking 3/4 bottle are very pleasant, but suggest this wine is really going to get a lot better with time. This wine is built for aging. Finish is quite long, and the mineral/oak aftertaste is lasting forever.
I'm going to buy more, and open another in three years.

If drinking now, open air decant at least three hours.

Rev rates it: 93+

I paid about $50??? This wine will get better.... and it's already super enjoyable. Wasn't planning on drinking the whole thing... ah well

Rev- yeah, I really enjoyed this one immensely (scored it a couple points higher).
fyi-cost was 43.99 before discount..

I snagged some for the cellar, although I dont think I'll know what they drink like in a few years (they wont last that long...)

Thanks for the correction on the price.

I'd like to snag some more for the cellar at that QPR. I think it's a great deal. I was a little reserved in my rating I think because it didn't have a nose to speak of. Otherwise it definitely would've scored a point or two higher at least. I'd love to see what happens in a few years.

I had this wine the other night with dinner (I think it was when we had an impromptu pizza dinner, can't really remember though). I picked this wine up when I was trying to fill out the 2nd mixed case I was buying in June from him at MudPuppy's suggestion.

Perhaps it was because of the pizza. Perhaps it was because I was pooped from working in the yard all day. Perhaps it was something else. I don't know, but this wine was not a wow-er to me.

I also got no nose to speak of on this, so that seems to match. Maybe the food overpowered or goofed up my tastebuds, but I did not get the same level of complexity out of this bottle as you guys did. Maybe it was too closed for me to evaluate properly.

Don't get me wrong, I think this was a pretty darn good bottle, and I agree with much of what Rev wrote up about it, but I do not think it's a 93 pointer. Perhaps this will be much more open to my interpretation in a few years. Sadly, I only picked up a single of this. I had vowed to generally not do that anymore, but it was a simple case filler at that point when I bought it and I only needed one more bottle.

TJ rates it 89 points, maybe 90 points.

I picked up a few when I was at MudPuppy's and now I will know to leave them be for a couple of years at least. No problem, there is lots of wine to drink in the meantime.

I'm thinking of picking up some more... This is built like the '98 grange... high glycerin levels.. not a huge nose.... but once it hits your palate you can tell it's just sitting there waiting to release all it's got on you... but... that is going to take some time.

I'll open one more before popping for some more just to be sure.. but this is a real winner for me.
