Medium-dark ruby colour with synthetic aromas of acetone and varnish. Also notes of vanilla, cocoa, and black plum. Full-bodied, with currant, spice, cocoa, tar. Moderate length finish, 30s, with black fruit. 89 points (08/27/2005).

Futronic,

Were you a fan of the 1997? Do you usually find yourself enjoying the Ciacci style?

This was the first Brunello from Ciacci I've had. The nose was very offputting. If it wasn't for that, I would probably give it 2-3 extra points.

Very extracted, not really "Brunello-eske," but there would be potential for a good wine without the synthetic notes. I preferred the Favius.

Thank you for all the TN and the replies. I find Ciacci BdM can split folks, especially those that drink a predominant amount of Italians.

This was one of my two favorite European reds of the evening. I really liked this one but it is years away from being ready IMO. I gave it 92 pts at the moment.

I liked the nose on this wine and found it to be one of the more aromatic wines of the evening. Note that I'm not sure this tasted like Brunello but it was pretty good.

Tasted at Otis' Cellar Diminishment Party; A great nose of plums and spices. Clearly very young and in need of years of aging. Complex and interesting but not a traditional Brunello style. (91 pts.)

Medium intensity nose of earth, tar, leather, dried sour cherry, plum and oak(vanillin, cinnamon). Medium body, medium plus intensity and medium plus acidity. Earth, sour cherry, leather, black cherry, spice and oak. Balanced with drying fruit and wood tannin. A good 8-10yrs more needed. 91pts.

a young ciacci brunello can seem to be very new world because of that dark sweet fruit boquet. amazingly, they come together over time and drink exceptionallywell even with some botttle age. i have had the 1990 twice in the last couple of years and the wine was outstanding with years to go. ciacci is one of those producers that fools you young.

Opened a bottle of the 1999 Brunello two days ago and it showed ample (though modern, not a bad thing) Brunello character. Nice with about 1-2 hours of air.

Supple and seductive, this bottle of Brunello drank well with no decanting (though it improved over the evening in the glass). Dark fruits, a little mineral and slight hints of soy proved to be a great match with Peking Duck. (91 pts.)
