| A few days before my wedding, I stopped by the wine shop to pick-up a few things, and also thank the guys there for helping me out with all my wedding-related wine needs. So I went down to the cellar, and opened this bottle at the store. Damn cork broke on the way out (why are so many Italian corks unwaxed on the sides???), but the wine was undisturbed.
On the nose you could tell it was a very tightly coiled wine, but with a little aeration, the wine opened up to reveal seductive aromas of bright red fruits with asian spice components. On the palate, the wine revealed fine tannins and bright acidity, all in great balance. A delight, even though it was tight - it would no doubt reveal it's true beauty with several years in the cellar. 93+ points ($50 retail). Far more accessible then the Spinetta Gallina, and a better value (I bought 2 additional bottles).
My education in Nebbiolo continues... | | |
