| 100% cab sauv 13.5° alchool Ok, I know that this is difficult to find already for the current vintage, let alone old ones, but this is a great example of a Tuscan Cab Sauv of the style I like, balanced, terroir driven, not over the top in any respect. Still very young in color and nose, note of wood well integrated with some black fruit, spices, earthy and mineral scents, very nice nose, even the day after. In the mouth it's very clean, still young with good tannins and balanced acidity, a balsamic touch to add complexity to the flavors corresponding to the scents, very long finish. I have not tasted the '97, which is currently available (available?? ) but I think it's worth a try, depending on the price of course. I don't like ratings but in my book this is in the low 90's. | | | |

| Thanks for the TN, adreadago. How difficult is it to find this wine or even the current vintage? And how much is it in US $? I am trying to learn more about Italian wines and this sounds right up my alley.

| jb, production of this wine was about 300 cases up to '95 I believe, now it's a hefty 600 . I have a very cheap source for the '97 in Italy and I can pay less than 40€ for it, but I guess that this is found on the shelves for about 50€. I know that Felsina is imported in the US, no idea if this is among the ones to get there. I did not try '97 though, I may buy one to try it, dunno. ojeffso, '91 was indeed bad, but this wine, and most cab/merlot based wines in tuscany, did better than the sangiovese, ripening earlier. This wine got Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso, for what it's worth but it's a sign that even in this vintage they did a good job. This wine was nowhere showing signs of a weak vintage, it was young and rich.

a friend picked up the 97 MR for me, he managed to get it at $55 USD about six months ago, but he got it off auction. I have yet to see this on any shelf so far. | | | |

| | OTOH this sells here for almost twice as much as the '99 Fontalloro, which is a GREAT sangiovese, so it's a no brainer for me, a 6 pack of Fontalloro and no Maestro Raro. | | | |
