| | 100% Sangiovese Lamole from 70 year old vines. Deep garnet colour with purple tinges to a violet rim. Aromas of black cherries, blackcurrant, dark chocolate, violets, earth, minerals, and licorice. Full-bodied with black fruits, figs, and vanilla. Present, but fine, integrated tannins. Long, 50+ second finish showing violets and blackcurrant. Outstanding, but needs at least a couple more years to show its full potential and will hold for many years after that. 93 points (05/23/2004). | | | |

| | Dark purple/black colour; opaque. Aromas of vanilla, black plum, pepper, spice, and blackberry. Medium-bodied, very drying on the palate, with nothing showing from behind the massive wall of tannins at this point. NR (07/31/2005). | | | |

| At the Toronto offline.
70-80 year old vines. 100% Sangiovese.
Hot, peppery nose. Tannic and acidic. Might age well. Hard to evaluate. 80-84 | | | |

| | This wine did not show very well at the offline, and will be better with several years in the cellar. | | | |

| | It's probably still as hard as nails. Leave it in the cellar for a little longer! | | | |

| It's not hard as nails but has way too much oak for my palate. It was complex but the oak detracted from the whole. - 2001 Podere Poggio Scalette Il Carbonaione Toscana IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT (9/23/2007)
It would be a very good wine without the heavy-handed oak treatment. Will the fruit outlast the oak? Seems like a ? to me. [Decanted and poured; Needs time in a decanter to open up.] (90 pts.)
