Located 5km from Cotta, this cru is 450m up the hill. The extremely poor soil makes for a more austere wine. Ruby/garnet colour; darker than the others. Very perfumed nose showing some austerity, but with aromas of minerals, red fruit, tobacco, and spice. Full-bodied with outstanding purity of juice. Black/red fruits, flowers, and spice showing on the palate. The spice lingers through to the long, long finish, ~60s. Outstanding. 92 points (05/20/2004).

Futronic's TN is right on for this wine.

Tasted at the winery on 6/8/04. The focus and stucture of all of the Sottimano wines was amazing. We already have the 01 Fausoni and purchased a case of this wine at the winery. It needs at least two more years before even an attempt to drink. The winemaker indicated that they feel the drinking window on their wines is 5-7 years post vintage.

Sottimano was one of our best winery visits in Piedmont.

I broke down and opened one of these last night. Just to make sure it was still good (joke...). Yes, it was vinocide but this is a really good Barbaresco. No notes because I was enjoying so much. And yes, don't open one for two more years.

If you see this in the states for less than $60 it's a buy. I noticed it is available at a couple of places in the US but more will be imported.

Futronic - they are there, tucked away from any future cellar raids.

  • 2001 Sottimano Barbaresco Pajore - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Very dark in color, almost purple in color. My notes similar to the previous bottle - this wine is still packed with dark fruit. There was an interesting earthy note in this bottle. Great balance. As Steffen says, very, very good still young Barbaresco. (92 pts.)
