| This year's choice for New Year's champagne. Fully chilled, then popped the cork close to midnight. First disconcerting sign was the cork, it wasn't flared at the bottom like all the other champagnes we've had. It wasn't dead because it had all the bubbles when poured into flutes. The nose was very nice with apple and citrus. A nice fresh crisp scent. The first sip was decent, a little sweet maybe, then downhill from there to the point where none of us finished our flutes and the rest of the bottle was tossed. Each sip of champagne was very pleasant going into the mouth, but then the finish had a sharp bite to the back of the throat, not pleasant in the least, very acidic, almost sour. The worst was the aftertaste which tended to rise from the lower throat and was downright nasty, that was sour. Traditionally we've drank Dom Perignom at New Years, but we decided on something different. Bad choice. I can't recommend at any price, much less the release price of $150. I've never rated a wine this low before, can't put a number on it. But give QPR an F. Next year it's Krug. WS rated 84, Enthusiast rated 91. If anyone has experience with champagne that was corked, perhaps that explains it, I don't have enough experience with champagne to be certain. | | |

| Frankie, the cork not expanding is not an uncommon occurance. However it usually happens on older Champagnes, not younger ones. I wouldn't expect it to happen on a 1993.
I've not had the 1993 LGD, but have had the 1990 which was pretty good. | | | |
