I bought half a case for the cellar and decided to pop one to see if it was really worth aging.

Had this with a Pork stir fry and it seemed to match fairly well.

This golden coloured wine had a very intense nose dominated by nuts , smokey notes and a slightly toffee character. The texture is amazing with a lovely oily palate fading into a drying mouthfeel as the acid kicks in. However the finish is certainly more an off-dry style. The intensity of the flavours on the palate is quite intimidating. Strong nutty brulee flavours combine with some honeyed caramel notes. A complex and intense wine, I think this needs some time. I would say around 3005 this wine will be better intergrated and harmonised. Still a very solid and convincing wine 94 points.

I bought this for $85 NZD a btle, which is about $50ish USD.

I had a bottle of this last evening. My first Alsatian wine, and it sold me to buy others. A golden color, sweet nose, like toffee. Initial tastes of honey, caramel and toffee, then a dry finish with a slightly tart aftertaste. Found the bottle for $33 US, so I consider that a deal seeing what others have paid. Drank alone, but in the future would drink with a pork tenderloin or something along those lines.

91 points, the slightly tart aftertaste dropped the score a point or two.

I had one of these last month. Very good low 90's wine. If you liked this, try the 01 ZH Clos Windsbuhl Pinot Gris, too. A little more over the top flavors and a little bit more acidity.

Mmmmm... I love ZH Pinot Gris (and Weinbach Pinot Gris)
