part of this months Bubbles tasting,

It retails around $100 NZD

The nose of this wine exhibited good citrus flavour with hints of intergrated yeasty toasty notes. Lovely elegance and tight acids on the palate made this a wonderful wine. Great stuff- 93 points.

I agree this is a nice elegant bubbly - thanks for the notes Jeremy. BTW, how much does $100 NZD translate into USD?

Jaimetown - I saw it here yesterday for $34. It wanted to go home but I resisted.

Winetex, thats an awesome price. That equals $50 NZD and is well below the cost price here.

Jeremy - from Wine Searcher pro it looks like this wine sells from $26 USD and up. This is one that would be easy to do a case discount which is my idea for holiday champagne giving. Last year I gave the Pommery NV which people really liked.

This is one of my favorite NV's! Tattinger is really a fantastic house. I can typically find this for around 30/btl at costco.

My bro and i recently toasted Hurricane Isabel with a bottle of this. It was quite a site the two of us on the balcony soaking wet with champage flutes toasting a Hurricane! Truely crazy people!

30E per bottle here too! I wouldn't be caught dead paying twice that price for Taittinger NV. No choice, of course, if all the rest of your options are priced at 200% too...
Now, where's that Pelorus when you need it?

I'm sure the standard NV is not much above £20 here so consistent with Gastro. As for the Pelorus - four bottles remaining

LOL!

Jeremy - is non-vintage champagne all relatively expensive in New Zealand?

Hmmmm Pelorus yummmm.

In all seriousness though I thinkit has to do with with pricing battles here. NZers have this stupid thought process about Champagne that the more expensive it is the better it must be. We do drink copious amounts of bubbles though.

Other Prices
Bolli- About $60 USD
Veuve- About $55 USD
Piper- About $30 USD
Tait- About $60 USD
Charles Caves- About $35 USD
Krug About $140 USD

Jeremy - you guys are getting the shaft on the bubbles pricing. What does it cost to ship from the US to NZ? At the very least we could improve your personal bubbly supply if it is cost-efficient.

Below are your costs vs. mine - on the US east and west coasts these might even be less.

For instance -
Bolli- About $60 USD $40 USD
Veuve- About $55 USD $30-$40 ish USD
Piper- About $30 USD $28 USD
Tait- About $60 USD $34 USD
Charles Caves- About $35 USD$35 for Charles Ellner Brut
Krug About $140 USD $90-130 USD

Keep in mind that those prices are partly due to an inflated NZ dollar vs the US. At the beginning of the year they were nearer your prices- still more expensive but nearer.

However yeah they suck......

Winetex,

Thank you for the offer but don't worry about my bubbles situation- I drink mostly Kiwi and I have some good vintage Krugs lying in my cellar for those special occasions.

Jeremy - vintage Krugs = good. We always want to enable another "lover of the bubbles".

A local store had Taittinger NV for $18.99 a bottle. I sort of did a double-take and decided I could wait and go back tomorrow to re-check the price. But if it is true (and I think it is because all of the bottles had the same price sticker) I think I am going to have to go and stock up.

Wow! It's just under C$60 here (about US$46). I'd get a few of those just on general prinicipal.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see prices like this one posted.
