2000 Domaine Tempier Bandol Cuvee Classique --this is Tempier's entry-level red, a blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault. It's an exciting wine, maybe The red meat barbecue wine. Ink black color; intense nose of blood, beef, and sweet cherry; cherry, plum, iodine, and mineral flavors on a medium-bodied but intense mouthful of taste; fairly long, intense finish. Still pretty tight, it feels like it's going to open up more in the next few years. Reminds me of the wilder side of N. Rhone Syrah from Crozes or even Hermitage, but on a slightly lighter frame. App. 90-1 pts. Well worth purchasing a few (C$37).
