This bottling, whose blend is kept secret (although most experts suppose that it is between 70-80% Pinot Noir, the balance to be Chardonnay) was showing exceedingly well. The nose was scented with tons of chalky minerals with a ponderance of Pinot like fruit, the almost berry like composition with lemongrass and ginger snap coming to mind. The palate is full with terrific intensity as well as complexity. It is indeed a charming as well as regal wine. It will still see better days accoding to my palate with 4-6 more years of bottle age. And with the excellent acidity and panoply of flavors should last another 10-15 gracefully

1990 Pol Roger Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill.

The nose was dominated by the Pinot Noir component a big note of citrus, lots of minerality and a very yeasty leesy autolytic character. As it became warmer the nose showed more development with a nice fresh bread and sugar cookie note that was quite inviting. On the palate it was medium to full with a piercing core of acidity, which made the wine quite dry, dryer than most other brut. It displayed an array of citrus flavors along with again the leesy character found on the nose. It is a very striking and singular style of Champagne built to last and almost painfully dry. I think it will age nicely over the next 5-10 years. For me it lacks a touch of elegance, being more foursquare rather than rounded, nice to see now but will look for better days ahead. -rv

1990 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, Brut - France, Champagne (5/16/2007)
WIML94,NOWA,WS96

Tasted May 16, 2007 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel Overture Champagne flute. Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with a light mousse. Nose of pear, apple and cookie dough. Flavors of apples, pears, citrus, some light cherry notes and some biscuit. Good acidity, medium bodied. Drink or hold. (94 pts.)
