ok, so it's not an '01 german, but it is the first riesling i have tried. it was $12.99 at costco, so i figured what the hell. it also had a tag hanging on it's neck saying that it got 90 points from the wine advocate.

this wine is a very pale gold in color. it has very little aroma & what there is is a fresh citrus scent. it is well balanced with a nice acidity that went well with the caprese i made this afternoon & is nice sipping on the patio watching ethan try to learn to swim at 1 year old . at least we won't hit triple digits today. the dominant flavor is grapefruit, with some lemon notes as well. it has a relatively long, somewhat tart finish. if wa says 90 points, who am i, a first time riesling drinker, to dispute it ? i would be curious what this would compare to in a german riesling. for $12.99, i'd buy this again.

You'll find the German riesling less zingy and more sweet. Hugels riesling in particular retains very little Residual sugar, making it more austere. If you enjoyed this you would probably enjoy the Grosset Polish Hill riesling from Aussie.

if there is any residual sugar here, it is very well hidden.

Its probably around 2 grams residual- hiding behind all that acid.
