| 20% Arbanne, 20% Petit Meslier, 25% Fromenteau (Pinot Gris), 15% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir, 5% Meunier - Moderate nose of brioche, toasted nuts, figs, and spice. Full body, high complexity and high acidity. Palate matches though with loads of flowers, interestingly made from Champagne’s “other”, or forgotten varietals, this wine was interesting to drink, but more a long the lines of drinking Gravner or the like, intellectual, but not really a wine I want to sit down and enjoy a whole bottle of. 92 pts (for interest), 87pts (for drinking)
L. Aubry is Philippe Aubry with assistance from his brother in-law Noel Poret and brother Pierre. The are located in the Valle de la Marne region with vines planted to 30% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 40% Meunier in the Premier Cru of Jouy-les-Reims, Pargny and Villedommange on clay-limestone soils. The brothers have have 16.5 hectares and vinify in old, 205 liter oak barrels using only the “coeur de cuvee” for vintage dated wines. The Montagne de Reims is a horseshoe shaped area with a variety of expositions, made up of soils of Cretaceous chalk with mixtures of clay and sand. The village is planted to 56% Pinot noir, 28% Chardonnay and 16% Meunier.
