Deep purple, medium nose of blackberry, herbs and vanillin. Medium plus body, intensity and medium-to-medium plus acidity. Meaty, hung game, underbrush, tobacco, herbs and blackberry. Balanced with medium plus tannin.

S-

Irouleguy is an AOC in Southwest France. It is a small finger that borders Spain beneath the Pyrenees abutting the Basque region (hence the strange spellings). Reds and white produced, reds are prodominatly Tannat, softened with Cab. Franc and Cab. Sauv. Whites are based on Corbu, Petit and Gros Manseng. If you find this wine or its sibling, go for the other bottling. The Cuvee has a lot of new oak on it to "internationalize" it a bit. That regular Irouleguy gives you a much better sense of place.

Thanks, the spelling looks almost Greek so I was curious. Were these at a trade tasting?

These were at a small trade tasting. I was also pouring the regualr Irouleguy by the glass at my restaurant. Sold really well, people were a lot more receptive then I had originally expected.
