This wine was purchased at the domaine during our visit in 2001, and is another example of a wine tasting much, much better as a result of the setting and situation. Cost was something like $5.00.

The color of this wine is brilliant, a lustrous clear ruby. Unfortunately, the color is by far this wine's best feature. The nose presents classic tobacco notes, but with a significant weedy/green component (not like bell peppers however, maybe green peas?), along with some chocolate, a touch of plum, and some spice. On the palate the wine is chalky, with drying, puckering tannins, high acidity, and a thin body leading to a short finish. This isn't completely unpleasant, but it's nothing special. 75 points.
