For anyone who bought this for $45 from Premier Cru you got a screaming deal....thank me later.

1996 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Avize - France, Champagne (11/24/2006)

Unfortunately this champagne followed a 90 Salon so it suffered in comparison. It was a very light gold in color with a medium mousse. It was shy on the nose with a big middle and finish. Classy, balanced and drank well but needs additional time to further develop. This wine was a deal in vintage champagne at well under $60 on release. Next bottle up in 2008. (92 pts.)

Jan and I shared a bottle of this with friends this week. I'd echo Winetex's comments, except that our bottle had a very nice toast and muted cherry/blackberry nose. I'm more of a Blanc de Blanc guy, but this was superb.
