| | Straw gold, fine bead, lively mousse with a medium nose of stones, yellow apples, yeast, baked bread, buttered toast adn citrus. Medium body, medium plus intensity and medium plus acidity. Lemons, stones, yellow apples, butterscotch hints, grilled nuts on the palate. Balanced with great layering of flavor beginning to take on the notes of an aged Champagne. | | | |

| | I had this Last Friday (June 30th) and it was quite tasty. We say this in Reims for 45E and cleaned out the store. I then saw it for $70 back home and bought a case. I think Heidsieck is putting this back on the market, it used to be $115 the previous time I purchased it. For the $70 price this is a buy. | | | |

| | At $70.00 this would be a strong buy in my opinion. | | | |

| skwid,
Where did you see it for $70 and did you buy them out? | | I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland. -- Woody Allen | |

| | I'm not sure if I bought them out, but it was prearrival and they didn't say how much they bought, only that they tried to get everything they could. It was back in early May so I suspect they are sold out as I haven't heard that it is still available. | | | |

| This bottle seemed further along than the ones in the previous TNs.
1985 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Charlie - France, Champagne (11/4/2006) VC's Third Annual Cult Smackdown (Sunnyvale, CA www.lionandcompass.com): Dark gold in color with a very fine mousse; This was very close to being excellent champagne but there is a bit of heaviness that doesn't take it to the next level for me. It was very complex with yeast, mushroom and citrus rind flavors. Very good. (93 pts.)

| | The WOTN at the 4th annual Vinocellar Anniversary dinner on Saturday night. Showing age, but not at all over-the-hill there is some sherry along with poached green apples with brown spice and lots of minerality. Wonderful mouthfeel with plenty of small bubbles and perfectly weighted. Incredibly long finish. Probably my current WOTY. I do not think his will improve, although it will certainly last a few more years. 95.5 | | I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland. -- Woody Allen | |

| Another one of our "palate cleansers" before the Freeman Caves dinner. - 1985 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Charlie - France, Champagne (2/9/2008)
This came across as yeasty but still fresh. Lovely champagne. I've liked this every time I've tasted it and it remains a good deal for vintage champagne. It has not changed very much in the last couple of years so it might be close to a peak. (93 pts.)
