| NV Egly-Ouriet "Brut Tradition Grand Cru". Champagne, France. 12% alcohol. $35. Medium gold color with a frothy but fine bead. Intense nose of bready and slightly decayed lemons, stone, tart pear, and unsweetened orange marmalade. Quite rich in the mouth with excellent depth of flavor. Good length with ending flavors of minerals and stone. Acidity is there but is unobtrusive. Very flavorful but not the most elegant of Champagnes. The sampled bottles came from Lot 62 which was disgorged in November 2003 after 41 months aging. Unfiltered. Bottle variation noted. Drink now to 2008. 90+ points. | | | |

| | Does the producer note the disgorgement date on the bottles? (a practice which I think all NV producers should follow) | | | |

| | IIRC they do - lot number plus disgorgement date and amount of aging. | | | |

| | Hey Jones thanks for the note. I have a bottle of this lying around that I'll have to try one of these days. For not being the most elegant, your TN sounds like it is still certainly a worthy drink. I'll have to see if my label matches up to your label or not. | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com | |

| | Its absolutely worth drinking imo. I've ordered it as a half bottle starter a number of times at restaurants as well as served a few at events at my home. | | | |

| Note the difference in disgorgment dates from Jones' note. This wine cost almost $60 in our market which is way overpriced.
- N.V. Egly-Ouriet Champagne Cuvée Brut Tradition Grand Cru - France, Champagne, Ambonnay, Champagne (1/19/2007)
Medium gold in color with a large mousse; This champagne really does nothing for me. Although the quality is there the large mousse detracts from the flavors. It was not worth the $$. There are less expensive NV wines that deliver a better experience. ⎶ months aging; Disgorged December 2005] (89 pts.)

| | This wine used to be around $35, but now is creeping towards $50 in many stores around here. I still have a bottle disgorged in 2004 and a few in 2005 - I'll probably wait until later this year to open any of the 2005s. Thanks for the notes Winetex. | | | |

| | It's funny - we had a bottle of this (same disgorgement date) at our off-line in January and it was quite nice - interestingly it was the Egly NV Rose that showed the large mousse quality and not the Brut Tradition... | | | |

| | Had another bottle (disgorged July 2005) - drinking very well, though rather a large-scaled champagne. Very good with oysters on the half shell, and less effective with chocolate covered strawberries. | | | |
