NV Deutz “Brut Classic”. Champagne, France. 12% alcohol. $30.
A light straw turning to gold color with a medium bead. Reasonably full aromas of white pepper and lime with smidges of stone and ginger. Quite big in the mouth but turns rather sour on the finish. Drink now. 85 points.

  • N.V. Deutz Champagne Brut Classic - France, Champagne (11/6/2006)

Medium gold in color; This champagne had decent structure with apple and spice flavors. It had a rather large, strong mousse that I found to be a negative as it detracted from the overall flavors. The style was bold and masculine and made for a good apertif. [Ordered by the glass from a restaurant from a bottle opened on the spot] (88 pts.)

I bought a few bottles on Wine Commune for cheap and was very pleased. I suspect the bottles had a few extra years of aging as there was a nice nut and toast aspect with rounded acidity.
