2004 Domaine Huet “Sec”. Clos du Bourg, Vouvray AOC, Loire Valley, France. 12% alcohol. $32.
Medium gold with a full nose that reminds me rather of fine Chablis – stone, slate, minerals, lemon, chalk, tart vanilla spice, lime, tangerine, and underripe kiwi. Strong flavors and fine concentration are lifted by bracing acidity. Texturally appealing with impressive length for a white wine. Le Clos du Bourg is a 15-acre vineyard that has been farmed biodynamically since 1990. Le Clos du Bourg is planted on limestone which only has a thin layer of fine clay on top of it. The wine saw no new oak and did not undergo malolactic fermentation before being bottled. Huet whole cluster presses and allows fermentation to take place using wild yeast. Wine is raised in stainless steel or old oak (some of which is up to 50 years old). Huet’s Vouvray vines average 28 years in age. Huet eschews chaptalizing its wines but does filter them prior to bottling. If this were a Grand Cru Burgundy it would set you back $200. I buy it by the case. Drink now to 2025. 92+ points.

Yes, from WH. Not the 1921. Though I would get a huge kick out of tasting through all of the old vintages.

The cool part of the offer was 375s of the 2004. Seems like a no-brainer.

A timely note from Jones as I was able to purchase the wine shortly after he posted the TN. Great call on this one.

  • 2004 Huët Vouvray Sec Clos du Bourg - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (6/9/2006)

This wine was extremely concentrated with citrus (lemon and limes), slate and almonds on the nose and palate. It also had a decent amount of acidity that should integrate over time and give the wine some longevity. It finished long and aromatic picking up some spices. Underrated and decently priced for the quality of the wine. [~$16 for a 375; Drinking well now but could hold short-term (less than five years).] (92 pts.)

I am willing to bet $$ (or in my case bottles that I bought) that this wine will not only hold longer than 5 years, but it won't even be near its peak in 10. Huet ages very well. While the 2004s are not the best vintage, they are quite good.

It depends on what you like in your wines. I've read that the Huet wines are very long-lived wines but I've never tasted any with any age on them. Mine will be long gone before five years. Good stuff.

True, but that hasn't much to do with the actual, useful longevity of the wine.
