Purchased 5 at $29.99 each from a local source.

This late harvest reisling was deep golden in color showing remarkably little sign of its fourteen years. It literally coated the entire glass w/ minimal thick legs dripping about as slow as wet paint. The complex nose combined loads of minerals (quartz/silicon/deisel) with apples and lemon candy which at times combined into something akin to coconut. On the palate, the wine showed Trimbach's typical dry style (a little residual sugar but not as much as can be found in other Alsace VTs and SGNs) with flavors similar to the nose. My first thought after my initial slip was "terrior in a glass." My mother, who enjoys wine, but is not a cork dork like me, remarked that the finish was longer than any wine she'd ever had. My father commented that he'd never tasted a wine like it before, and that included the Trimbach wines we tasted at the winery in 2000.

A pure joy to drink. 94 points in my book.

I'm glad you got it. I'd heard good things.

Purchased them last week. Initially, I was puzzled given the wine's age, but then read about Trimbach's recent release of the remainder of these wines which they were holding. The bottles and labels were in very good condition, indicating that the wines had not been sitting on a shelf for any significant amount of time.

Wild. How would you ever know about this stuff being new to a retailer's shelf or having sat there for ages and ages (let's say he spruced the bottles up to make them look nice (no dust, etc))?

I just picked up 3 bottles (last two months) of Gewurztraminer, Selection de Grains Noble from the 1989 vintage all lower than $40. All in really good condition. Can't wait to open one.

Seaquam,

I believe the wine may have been mistaken (and underpriced) by a store clerk for the '98 Frederic Emile (which has the same label other than the vintage date and an additional sticker stating "vendages tartives"). The '98 FE is also priced at $29.99. I bought all the remaining bottles on the shelf other than one which may have had a depressed cork under the foil seal. I have some time on Thursday and will try to drop by the store again to see if the shelf has been restocked. If you want me to purchase some for you, send me a PM.

That was an outrageous deal. If such a thing happened here it'd be the other way around: the regular Frederic Emile priced as VT

Tasted and the New Orleans Swamp ‘n Grape…

Simply a huge nose, displaying wonderful orange peel and mineral notes. Very full, rich, and concentrated on the palate, without being overly sweet or cloying. Tons of beautiful fruit and showing elegance and complexity. 95 points, and the best white of the night for me.
