| SFWine pointed this Champagne out to me so I got some. Drunk out of a Riedel Sommelier Vintage Champagne stem. Not decanted
I was told that the 1998 vintage was more fruit forward (listen up Brian Loring) than many Champagne vintages. This was true in spades as this Champagne exhibited lots of pear and apple flavors with some bready overtones. Not many bubbles and the acidity is lacking (unlike 1996). So I think this is a Champagne to drink within the next few years and not a long ager. I liked this Champagne for drinking now, perhaps pouring over the cornflakes at breakfast

| Mookster, I'm not real high on RMP as a Champagne guy. He very rarely rates Champagne (for whatever reason). This is NOT a classic Champagne. There is low acid and lots of fruit (which RMP seems to like in his wines). For those who like an "in your face" Champagne this is great. Peters also makes an NV Champagne which is supposed to be quite good. I purchased the rest of the 1998 at K&L this morning on the web. Hopefully you didn't scam one of my bottles | | | |

| Skwid - you didn't leave any for me. They must not have had too much of this to start with. | | | |

Imagine that, one Champagne Slut snarking a Champagne out from under another Champagne Sluts grasp

I bought a bottle of the non-vintage blanc de blancs to try. Spec's is not carrying the 1998 (at least not yet). They have quite a few of the Thiery Theise bubblies.

| - 1998 Pierre Peters Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Cuvée Spéciale Les Mesnil-Sur-Oger - France, Champagne (5/7/2005)
This was very nice Blanc de Blancs vintage champagne. It was very pure and focused with chalky notes on the finish. As Skwid notes it is a low acid Champagne so I don't see long term aging for this one. For the right price (under $60) this is very enjoyable now. It was terrific with assorted Sushi. (92 pts.)

| Had this today for breakfast with bacon and eggs. Drunk out of a Riedel Somm. Vintage Champagne glass. Not decanted
Some carmelly notes with lots of apple. A very nice bottle of Champagne. I could drink this every day (if I could go to work a bit tipsy...).

| This would be a great breakfast of champions.
- 1998 Pierre Peters Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Cuvée Spéciale - France, Champagne, Le Mesnil Sur Oger, Champagne (12/15/2006)
Light gold in color; This champagne seemed young and will probably continue to improve short-term. The mousse was larger and and a bit wild for me for a vintage champagne but that is a minor issue. A well-priced, enjoyable Champagne for what it offered. (92 pts.)

| I've liked each bottle of this less than the previous bottle. The quality is good but it has no charm - lots of large bubbles and not enough chalky notes for my tastes. 90 pts last night.
And a note on this old thread - as I was harrassing Skwid on 2/2/05 about buying all of the initial K&L shipment he was throwing one in a shipment of wines for me to try. Gotta appreciate generous people like the Skwidster.
