Part of a three chardonnay tasting.

Pale straw color. Very reticent nose to begin with, and then apples, nutmeg, vanilla, licorice, roast ham(!) over about a twenty minute span. The palate was dominated by concentrated, resinous lemons, Granny Smith apples, and minerals, with the apples particularly evident in the finish. Relatively high acid. This wine gave every impression that it would be better in about five more years. 90 points now.

I had a "La Boudriotte" from this vintage and producer a couple weeks ago with BHVineyard, and this was totally different and a superior wine.

In my experience, Ramonet wines are virtually always outstanding, but I drink far less white Burgundy than I used to since the prices escalated so dynamically. Ramonet-Prudon (sp?) was another reliable one.

I would have expected more from the '96 Vergers, but now, not in 5 more years.

I was a bit disappointed as well, to the point where I initially thought that it might be just slightly corked. As for when to drink, that may just be the difference in the way we like our wines, Board O. I prefer some age on white Burgundies. Certainly this didn't have the effusive fruit of some of the Chablis we've discussed on these boards.
