Medium-dark red in color, the earthy nose offers up aromas of sour cherries, spicy oak, and underbrush. Tart on the palate, with fine but pronounced tannins and a medium finish. 87 points, drink 2004-2006.

eric-believe it or not, this wine was opened way too early. his wines from excellent vintages need a minimum of ten years of bottle age before opening. i had one of these last year just to see how it was doing. i will not touch another one for about three years. the opposite of a california pinot noir.

Interesting Jeff - I must admit, I had a difficult time guaging the longevity of this wine - it certainly stood out as unique among the others in the first two flights.

I agree with Jeff. I had a 96 Champans not too long ago and it was nowhere near ready to drink. We tried it, then left it out for 24 hours, and it was just starting to open up
