Burgundy roulette anyone? A relative bargain for aged Burgundy at $70 but there is a TCA problem so not all bottles have been good (noted in CT with others as well). At the very least I can return them when they are bad since it is from a local store. Last night's bottle was a win.
- 1993 Robert Ampeau & Fils Volnay 1er Cru Santenots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru (9/5/2008)
Clear- medium ruby with some bricking; Earthy, slightly tarry nose with just a bit of funk; Dark fruit, earth and mushroom flavors finishing long with a touch of licorice. Sily texture. In all a balanced and well-made wine. Good wine - if only all bottles were this good. [Opened and poured with good results] (91 pts.)
1993 Robert Ampeau & Fils Volnay 1er Cru Santenots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru (8/3/2008)
This bottle may have been slightly corked but it was really marginal. Looking at others' notes it is fairly obvious there is a TCA problem with this wine. This bottle was drinkable. (87 pts.)
