I found this in my cellar today. Somehow it wasn't listed in my cellar log. Years ago, I bought the 1983 burgundies at release based on early hype which proved unfounded. My expectation was that this wine would be undrinkable.

There was a slight brown edge, but the nose of cherries seemed fine. The flavors of sour cherries and cooked fruit were slightly marred by a harsh edge, but the wine was surprisingly drinkable. 86.

Its great you got a wine without the taste of the hail and subsequent rot that plagued many 83s. Many of the producers claimed some of these flavors would age out (I found their assertion at a minimum as convenient). Parker did not review the 83 version of this wine. He gave the 1985 vintage a 87.

They were trying to sell their wines and I bought the early hype for the 1979-1983 vintages and wound up drinking a lot of disappointing Burgundies. Next to Italy, I've had more disappointments from Burgundy thatn anyplace else, but when Burgundy hits the highs, which it does so rarely, I find it unbeatable.
