Opened a wonderful bottle of Beaujolais with turkey meatloaf last night - a fine match:

  • 2005 Domaine Robert Perroud Côte de Brouilly "L'Enfer des Balloquets" Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Côte de Brouilly (11/5/2007)
A solid bottle of Cru Beaujolais - aromas of sweet red fruits and a fistful of dirt, with a bit of pine notes as well. On the palate, ripe fruits with earth and minerals, with a charged acidity that is almost too much, but just manages to stay on the right side of the line. I need to drink more $15 bottles of wine like this. (88 pts.)

Yeah, it was meatloaf... oops.  I don't even want to know what that meatload definition is (though I have an idea).

Most cru Beaujolis do not get their due respect. Never had this producer in particular but usually drink a lot of Thivin, Foillard, Dupueble, Chignard, Lapierre, Breton etc.

I'm dabbling with some 2005s - I think I'm gonna pick up a Morgon and a Moulin-a-Vent next. Fleurie is also good - do you have any recommendations for a producer from that Cru?

Chignard's Fleurie is very good, I think I have a tasting note posted on it.
