This might be a good choice for anyone wanting to try Burgundy at a relatively good price. At ~$35 in the door just a few months ago it was a lot less than some Cali Pinots that pretend at being Pinot. Not fleshy, jammy, candied, etc. This is not a blockbuster wine but was well-made and good with food. And probably just entering its drinking window with plenty of time to go.
- 2001 Domaine Jean-Marc Pavelot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru (9/7/2007)
Medium clear ruby in color; The nose was shy with mineral notes leading into spice and minerals on the palate. Earthy notes on the finish. There was detectable acid although in balance. Another good Savigny from Pavelot - focused and interesting. [~$35, well-priced; Just entering its drinking window] (90 pts.)
