  • 2001 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (6/30/2007)
    The nose is wonderfully expressive for such a young wine. A slightly spicy, cherry nose, with hints of vanilla. A positive lightweight when compared to most California pinot noirs. Clearly a case of less is more. On the palate this wine is wonderfully balanced and focused. All-in-all a very elegant, nuanced wine. I expect that this will be a wonderful wine if given another 5-10 years of bottle age. (94 pts.)

Nice note! This is one of the more underrated and decently priced Grand Crus.

I think that the 2001 vintage in general is on of the more underrated and decently priced vintages!  You are correct on the Lambrays.  Even the 2005 was decently priced ($89).  I wonder how long that will last?

That's a good price on the 05. Tanzer's review says that the old vines were used in that bottling.

I've had a good lot of 1996s. I bought them at a Houston wine store (where they had been maybe since release) so they were probably further along than others but every bottle has been tasty.
